Los Molinos Mexican Restaurant (Closed)

2703 S. Western Ave.
Oklahoma City, OK

The Capitol Hill area of Oklahoma City has always been known to have some of the area's more authentic Mexican food. Los Molinos has one of the largest selection of meat items of any Mexican restaurant in OKC, including many dishes that are not normally offered outside the meat markets, street stalls, and small restaurants in Mexico and south Texas.

I tried a combination plate that included a cheese enchilada, chicken enchilada with sour cream on top, and tostada. I asked for a Chicken Tostada instead of ground beef, but I will have to say that the chicken was a disappointment. It seemed dry and tough, and had a rather strange tasting seasoning. I liked the chicken in the enchilada even less. Otherwise, though, the tostada was quite good. The tostada shell was very crispy and did not break from the weight of all the toppings. The beans, lettuce, and cheese were a flavorful mix.

The Cheese Enchilada was the highlight of the combination plate. I have seldom had Tex-Mex style enchiladas that were this good-- they tasted fresh, and were covered with both yellow and white cheese.

The refried beans were very good.

The salsa and queso were some of the spiciest I have seen in OKC, and the queso was one of the best.

I liked these aspects of the meal very much, but overall I thought the food was about average, particularly because of the greasy aftertaste it left. I am also curious why the meat, which is supposed to be what this restaurant does best, turned out to be the least appealing part of the meal.

Like most of its counterparts south of I-40, you won't spend a fortune here-- it is pretty reasonably priced for what you receive. I believe they serve breakfast every day, but it is only open for dinner on Friday and Saturday (until 9 p.m.).
