Log Cabin Restaurant

1074 Mechem Dr.
Ruidoso, NM
(575) 258-5029

Open only for breakfast and lunch, I sampled the Spanish Omelette with "Hot! Hot! Hot!" sauce. The salsa cooked into the egg was an excellent red New Mexico chile, about equal in heat to the ones served in good Albuquerque or Santa Fe restaurants. The omelette itself, though, was a different story, being overcooked and pretty much tasteless.

A sign of the problem was probably demonstrated through the Orange Juice, made from concentrate, and obviously an attempt to provide the cheapest ingredients possible. Even the melted butter placed on the table would turn a perfectly good pancake or waffle into something more reminiscent of chain restaurant food.

It is hard to ruin breakfast, and the Log Cabin did not, but they did not make it as special as it should have been in the magnificent setting of Ruidoso.
